1970s Czech ceiling lights (square)

Manufactured in former Czechoslovakia in the 1970s and once adorning a hotel lobby in Pilsen, these cut glass lights witnessed the end of communist rule. Surface mounted with a decorative moulded square glass shade, their slim profile makes them perfect for creating drama in hallways or areas tight on space, casting a striking patterned effect when illuminated.

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoration

In the mid 20th century, lights were designed with care and made to last. The work we do at skinflint is based on respecting and preserving the heritage of each piece we salvage.
