1970s Czech ceiling lights (square V2)

Part of the Bohemian glass making tradition, these 1970s ceiling lights were born during a tumultuous time of Czechoslovakia’s history, when communist rule was shaking and a new era was about to dawn. A decorative moulded glass shade is mounted on a white powder-coated base, casting a patterned effect when illuminated. Their low profile makes them perfect for entranceways and smaller spaces.

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoration

Over the years, we’ve restored thousands of lights that would otherwise have been lost forever - meticulously examining, refurbishing and updating one part at a time. But we don’t only piece together the light’s components, we also take the time to investigate its history, studying our archive of old manufacturer’s catalogues for clues to assemble the whole story.
