1960s opaline ceiling lights

Starting their journey in former Czechoslovakia, these decorative 1960s surface mounted lights once illuminated hallways in homes outside of Prague. All original components remain preserved, including a striking moulded glass opaline shade and an aluminium back plate with an original factory finish. A low profile makes it great for illuminating snug spaces on both walls and ceilings.

Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoration

At skinflint we are fascinated by different materials and the interesting patinas that develop on their surface over time. So wherever possible we restore with a 'light touch', celebrating each light’s age, authenticity and individual character, giving you a truly unique vintage light with a story.
