Vintage shop lighting at Lick
Lick is the sustainable paint brand shaking things up and causing a stir in the interior design industry. We’ve been big fans ever since they launched in 2020, and you will have seen Lick paint used in a lot of our studio shoots (Red 03 is a personal favourite against our pendants and chandeliers). Northcote Road in Clapham, London, is their first bricks-and-mortar outpost. As a fellow B Corp with sustainability firmly on both of our agendas, we’re excited to have supplied our restored original vintage lights to their flagship store.
Designed by Oskar Kohnen Studio, the muted, dusky pink-tinged store pays homage to the capital’s most iconic Art Deco buildings. From Battersea Power Station’s pink control centre - part of the inspiration behind the store’s dusky pink Northcote 65 colour designed exclusively for the project - to the curve of the store’s central counter table reflecting the shape of the famous Arding & Hobbs department store, the geographic location of the Lick store is referenced throughout the interiors. Meanwhile, the furnishings are influenced by a forward-looking, post-war, mid-century aesthetic. Walnut wood trims and monochrome tiling nod to Clapham’s old high-street shops of the 1950s (archive photographs were used as a reference), whilst the clean, shapely details of the island counter are also reflected in the designer vintage furnishings and lighting that feature throughout the interior.
Our wavey 1960s opaline wall lights continue this vernacular and celebration of history and heritage. Although originally installed in circulation areas of buildings within former Czechoslovakia, they are decidedly Art Deco-inspired, bringing an authentic vintage touch and glow to the interior.
