1930s Czech floor light

A 1930s medical floor light salvaged from a Czechoslovakian hospital, now fully refurbished and restored. Comprising a brushed/lacquered telescopic steel stand, chrome detailing with ball and socket joint, and a three-legged base with original castors. The lamp head - with wooden handle and brushed steel shade - also features the maker's plaque. It can be angled and adjusted by hand to provide illumination where desired, perfect as a reading or task light.

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoration

Over the years, we’ve restored thousands of lights that would otherwise have become scrap - examining, refurbishing and updating one part at a time. But we don’t only piece together the light’s components. We take the time to investigate its history, studying old catalogues for clues and assembling the whole story.
