1930s American shop light

An early 1930s American mirrored glass wall light, salvaged from a shop in New York. With a characterful patina, the original dark green satin finish has been retained to the shade with a pure silver plating underneath. Fitted with the original brass gallery and a new powder-coated wall bracket.

Unlike the communist Eastern Bloc countries, lighting design in mid-century U.S.A. benefitted from a free market. Different companies were working at the same time designing and producing similar products for the same market, often with only slight differences in their style. Due to the location we rarely have the opportunity to reclaim and restore light fixtures from the U.S.A., but some of our perennial favourites are the old signal lights that adorned the highways of the midwest. We reconfigure and restore these timeless classics into functional pendant lights, for both residential and commercial use.

Lighting like this was originally designed in the early 1920s-30s, specifically for use in high-end retail shop window displays, to direct light with the utmost efficiency precisely where it was needed.
