XL Opaline Pendants from Czechoslovakia

These opaline pendants once illuminated the hallway of a civic building in 1960's Prague, former Czechoslovakia. A classic design of its time, the white opaline glass produces an even glow when illuminated. Complete with its original chrome plated gallery and stanchion.

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoration

Once we’ve salvaged a collection of lights, we bring them home to our studio and begin the slow process of restoration. Each light is disassembled and we examine every component for damage and flaws, so we know which can be kept, and which need to be replaced. We then hand over to our experts – in-house and locally – to carefully restore each component by hand.

Product details

Each light is supplied with a new screw (E27) lamp holder, 2mtrs of suspension chain, traditional silver braided cable and ceiling mounting plate. If you would prefer another colour cable or wire suspension, please just ask.
