Vintage 1930s copper heat lamp

An early 1930s medical heat lamp, now fully refurbished and converted for wall-mounted use. The aged hardwood arm and wall plate, original copper shade, and polished brass detailing are a complimentary mix. A perfect task light, the shade can be angled 180-degrees vertically to provide focus for an object or in a room.

Lighting design in the UK benefitted from a free market. Different companies were working at the same time, designing and producing similar products for the same market. Often with only slight differences in their style, they constantly upgraded and improved their original designs. The products we salvage come from the old industrial heartland of England. This area of the UK was once the boiler room of the British economy - from the potteries of Stoke, through the engineering works of Birmingham, to the wool, textile and cotton mills of Oldham and Manchester.

Restoration

Each vintage light in our workshop undergoes preparatory treatment before we are able to bring it back to life. We start by removing the degraded surface. Here the copper shade and brass components have all been polished by hand, adding shine, grain and bringing out the light’s unique character testament to its age and heritage.

The light is supplied rewired and tested with a new screw (E27) lamp holder and a traditional twisted black braided cable.
