Rippled 1960s Czech opaline pendant

Once illuminating private residences in Prague, former Czechoslovakia, these 1960s rippled pendants are retro through and through. A glass opaline globe creates a soft and even glow of illumination when lit, contrasting against a Bakelite gallery. A great addition to restaurants and bars as well as homes and hotels.

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

In the mid 20th century, lights were designed with care and made to last. The work we do at skinflint is based on respecting and preserving the heritage of each vintage piece we salvage.
