Decorative Czech chandelier

A beautiful Art Deco chandelier salvaged from a residential interior in Czechoslovakia. Simple and stylish comprising a pewter-plated stem, arms and detailed central baluster with one large and three smaller hand blown opaline glass globes. A decorative and elegant example of Czech lighting.

Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoration

The Art Deco period ended with the onset of the Second World War and the advent of Modernism where designs became strictly functional. Despite this, the Art Deco style has never lost its appeal. Instantly recognisable with its symmetrical, geometric and curved designs, the movement continues to inspire to this day, and its influence echoes through the ‘Deco Revival’ designs of each decade up to the present day.
