A small run of tiered 1930s pendant lights salvaged from a hotel lobby in Czechoslovakia. Featuring the original matt opal glass shade providing a soft, diffused glow when illuminated, and a polished brass gallery.

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoration

With a clear, stepped outline mimicking the architecture of the time, these lights have a stylised decorative design instantly recognisable as originating from the Art Deco era. At skinflint, the work we do is about respecting and preserving the heritage of each piece we salvage, sensitively restoring so that each light lives to tell it’s original tale, and its future too.

Each light is supplied with a new screw (E27) lamp holder, 2mtrs of brass suspension chain, traditional old gold braided cable and ceiling mounting plate. (If you would prefer another colour cable or an E26 lamp holder for use in the USA, please just ask).
