Art Deco Czech pendant lighting

Elegant 1930's pendants salvaged from a residential interior in Czechoslovakia. The twin glass shades - with an outer opaline and an inner etched glass - create a stunning glow when illuminated, with an enhanced downward light from the open underside. The original steel gallery has an unusual waxed patina.

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoration

Restoring a light doesn’t necessarily mean making it like new. We often preserve the visible signs of age, such as spots of wear and patina, to give a hint about the light’s first story. The original gallery has been sensitively restored, waxed and sealed to prevent any further aging and enhance the surface.

Each light is supplied with a new screw (E27) lamp holder, 2mtrs of suspension chain, traditional old gold braided cable and ceiling mounting plate. (If you would prefer another colour cable, wire suspension or an E26 lamp holder for use in the USA, please just ask).
