1960s moulded glass ceiling light

Once illuminating lobbies in grand hotels in Prague, former Czechoslovakia, these unusual ceiling lights are retro through and through. A moulded and tinted stepped glass shade ensures a warm and even glow of illumination when lit, contrasting against a polished aluminium base. Great for making a statement in homes, hotels, restaurants and bars.

Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoration

Once a light has undergone preparatory treatment and any degraded surfaces have been removed, the path is clear for us to bring it back to life. With ferrous metals such as iron and steel, we wax-polish the surface on large rotating cotton wheels adding shine, grain and highlights to the casting details and bringing out the light’s character through surface and patina.
