1950s Hungarian machinist wall light

Born in Hungary in the 1950s, this machinist wall light originally illuminated detailed machine work in a factory in Budapest. Designed with versatility in mind, this light has all its original features, including two steel arms and socket and ball joint, as well as patina and a maker’s mark that nods to its rich history. Great for task lighting, offices, and bedrooms.

We salvage high volumes of industrial and decorative lighting from this landlocked former Eastern Bloc country. Hungarian industrial enamel shades are often available in blue or white, whereas the decorative glassware has more of a clean line and timeless design. In the mid to late 20th century, the Communist east produced a wide variety of lights for both industrial, commercial and residential applications often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage.

Restoration

Where possible, we always retain the original finish of a light, to celebrate and respect its history and heritage. That’s exactly the case with this machinist light; it features its original paintwork and a patina that tells a story of its original use. It still means we restore and replace any damaged and outdated components, ensuring the original electrics are replaced with brand new, fully certified BS EN60598 components.
