1930s vintage Czech chandelier

Era: 1930s Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

An elegant one-off 1930s ceiling light salvaged from former Czechoslovakia, this would have once been the central feature within the room. Typically Art Deco in style, it has a chrome-plated circular frame from which a larger tinted glass shade hangs. The three smaller shades provide additional feature up-lighting.

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoration

The restoration process our lighting goes through can take many months. To begin, we gently disassemble each light fitting, letting us spot any flaws and plan how best to bring it up to modern electrical standards. Then, our team of experts patiently restore each component by hand.
