1930s Sunco church pendant lights

Early 1930s silver-backed glass pendants by Sunco, salvaged from a church in Surrey, UK. They retain a beautiful unique patina to the reflective glass, with some worn areas creating an element of up lighting. Sensitively restored with a decorative polished brass gallery and manufacturer's labels.

Lighting design in the UK benefitted from a free market. Different companies were working at the same time, designing and producing similar products for the same market. Often with only slight differences in their style, they constantly upgraded and improved their original designs. The products we salvage come from the old industrial heartland of England. This area of the UK was once the boiler room of the British economy - from the potteries of Stoke, through the engineering works of Birmingham, to the wool, textile and cotton mills of Oldham and Manchester.

Restoration

The restoration process our lighting goes through can take many months. First, we gently disassemble each light fitting allowing us to spot any flaws and plan how best to bring it up to modern electrical standards. Then, our team of experts patiently restore each component by hand. Typically, this might involve polishing to restore and revitalise the surface of the light.

This image is taken from an original Eca Ray manufacturer's catalogue dated 1938 and is almost an exact match to our 1930s Sunco church lights.
