1930s Czech chandelier lighting

A stunning one-off ceiling light, salvaged from a residential interior in former Czechoslovakia. An original piece made in the Art Deco era, it has elegantly curved chrome-plated supports and arms with central wooden baluster, a tinted lower enclosed glass and five open-topped shades, producing a warm effect when illuminated.

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoration

Once a vintage light has undergone restoration in our workshop the final step is reassembly. All of the components, both new and refurbished, are meticulously pieced together. Each light is then photographed and added to our collection alongside information about its origins and history we’ve discovered through our research. The next chapter in the light’s story is up to you.
