1930s Czech chandelier

Era: 1930s Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

A one-off original Art Deco ceiling light from the 1930s, salvaged from a residential interior in the Czech Republic. Comprising beautiful opaline glass with elegantly curved chrome-plated arms and central baluster. The six yellow tinted glass shades - one enclosed on the underside and five open topped glass to the top - produce a lovely subdued glow when illuminated.

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoration

Every one of our lights goes through a variety of processes to bring it from the worn and often dilapidated state it arrives in, to a stage where it is ready for your home. From stripping down and rewiring, to applying a finish and sealing the light preventing further degradation to the surface. The vitreous enamelled steel shades have small amounts of localised wear and their original factory finish has been retained to the two part upper gallery, with original manufactures detailing, and an interesting surface patina.
