1930s Art Deco opaline chandelier

Era: 1930s Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

An original 1930s chandelier salvaged from a residential interior in the Czech Republic. Typical Art Deco in style, it features chrome-plated arms, fixed central baluster and four tinted opaline glass shades - one enclosed on the underside, and three open-topped shades to the upper. The opaline glass produces a warm glow and ambience when illuminated.

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoration

Once a vintage light has undergone restoration in our workshop the final step is reassembly. All of the components, both new and refurbished, are meticulously pieced together. Each light is then photographed and added to our collection alongside information about its origins and history we’ve discovered through our research. The next chapter in the light’s story is up to you.
