Vintage Czech glass lights (V1)

These unusual glass lights started life in former Czechoslovakia in the 1960s. Originally installed in circulation areas of communist-built residential buildings in the Eastern Bloc, these surface-mounted lights feature opaline white enclosures with graphic detailing. Eye-catching lit or unlit, they are ideal for small spaces such as hallways and bathrooms.

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoration

Square white opaline glass enclosures with a moulded surface detailing. The glass produces an even glow and distribution of light when illuminated. Mounted to a brushed aluminium wall plate that has been aqua-blasted to remove any corrosion.
