Retro Czech wall lights (clear cut glass)

Once providing illumination to municipal buildings in Prague, former Czechoslovakia, these retro 1960s surface-mounted lights were born at the height of nationalised industry in the Eastern Bloc. Mounted on a Bakelite base, a clear intricately moulded glass shade casts a striking burst pattern when illuminated. These wall or ceiling lights are perfect for creating drama in small spaces.

Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoration

In the mid 20th century, lights were designed with care and made to last. The work we do at skinflint is based on respecting and preserving the heritage of each piece. This ensures that every light we reclaim lives on to tell its tale: from its original use, to how it came to be salvaged and restored. The next part of the story is up to you.
