An elegant 1950s American opaline glass pendant in a simple yet interesting style. The enclosed opaline glass shade creates an even all-round glow when illuminated, and is fitted with the original chrome-plated gallery.

Unlike the communist Eastern Bloc countries, lighting design in mid-century U.S.A. benefitted from a free market. Different companies were working at the same time designing and producing similar products for the same market, often with only slight differences in their style. Due to the location we rarely have the opportunity to reclaim and restore light fixtures from the U.S.A., but some of our perennial favourites are the old signal lights that adorned the highways of the midwest. We reconfigure and restore these timeless classics into functional pendant lights, for both residential and commercial use.

Restoration

In the mid 20th Century, lights were designed with care and made to last. The work we do at skinflint is based on respecting and preserving the heritage of each piece. Over the years, we’ve restored thousands of lights that would otherwise have been lost forever - examining, refurbishing and updating one part at a time.

Each light is supplied with a new screw (E27) lamp holder, 2mtrs of suspension chain, traditional silver braided cable and ceiling mounting plate. (If you would prefer another colour cable or an E26 lamp holder for use in the USA, please just ask).
