Equire about this product

Origin: UK

Lighting design in the UK benefitted from a free market. Different companies were working at the same time, designing and producing similar products for the same market. Often with only slight differences in their style, they constantly upgraded and improved their original designs. The products we salvage come from the old industrial heartland of England. This area of the UK was once the boiler room of the British economy - from the potteries of Stoke, through the engineering works of Birmingham, to the wool, textile and cotton mills of Oldham and Manchester.

Restoration

Renowned at the time for its scientifically designed and superior quality reflectors, the General Electric Company (G.E.C.) produced a number of highly functional and aesthetic designs under the GECoRAY sub-brand, often used for shop window displays. Sensitively hand-restored by our lighting experts, the lights are complete with the original embossed manufacturer’s gallery and label reading 'GECoRAY: Made in England'. The shades are double plated with pure silver on the polished glass surface internally, and copper plated and finished with a satin silver outer surface. The extract featured is taken from our own internal archive material, showing the original manufacturer's catalogue by 'GEC' dated 1926.
