Retro Czech ceiling lights (V2)

Simple retro ceiling/wall mounted lights salvaged from Czechoslovakia. Refurbished by hand, the black finish on the aluminum enclosures has been sealed. The opaline glass shade provides an even glow when illuminated, making the lights ideal for hallways and circulation areas.

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoration

Different materials require different processes. At skinflint we are fascinated by interesting surfaces and patinas, that’s why we tend not to repaint our lights as this can make them look too ‘new’ and they lose some of their of individuality. During restoration non-ferrous metals such as aluminium are often sealed using crystalline waxes, or occasionally left raw so the surface can develop an interesting lustre over time.

Each light is supplied with a new screw (E27) lamp holder. (If you would prefer an E26 lamp holder for use in the US please contact us.) Suitable for use as both wall and ceiling fittings.
