Oxidised Hungarian factory shade

Origin: Hungary

Vintage industrial Hungarian factory pendant. Vitreous steel shade with an oxidised and sealed steel top enclosure. The original factory finish is retained provides an interesting surface patina on the enclosure. Localised wear to the enamel adds character and emphasises the age of the product.

We salvage high volumes of industrial and decorative lighting from this landlocked former Eastern Bloc country. Hungarian industrial enamel shades are often available in blue or white, whereas the decorative glassware has more of a clean line and timeless design. In the mid to late 20th century, the Communist east produced a wide variety of lights for both industrial, commercial and residential applications often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage.

Restoration

Oxide is a range of lights featuring specially treated steel or iron enclosures, that have been purposely and individually oxidised in our workshops to create an interesting array of rich surface patinas. The enclosures are then sealed through a unique preservation technique to prevent further ageing.
