Vintage restaurant lighting at Bistro Freddie
The opening of new, unpretentious pavement side hangout Bistro Freddie in London’s Shoreditch has us all talking here at skinflint. Not only because of its recent raving review in The World of Interiors (both about the food and its off-hand-cool style). And not because it's the hotly anticipated new venture by our friend Dom and the team behind the hugely successful restaurant Crispin (although that too caught our attention). But because, as you can see, our vintage Czech opaline globes play a starring role.
From the hand-written photocopied menus, to the relaxed dishes of chicken pie and chips, and the slightly too-big steamed marmalade pudding, Bistro Freddie, is the kind of place you can take your parents to (just prepare yourself for the bold bathrooms!). Likewise the interiors are, in designer Jermaine Gallacher’s words, “relaxed with moments of design.” We love the bespoke nicotine-cream paint by Fancesesca’s Paints, dark wood panelling and empty bottles lining the cornice that make the place feel less fresh-out-the-box. All of course finished off by our authentically aged vintage pendants that give that soft ambient glow come dinner service.
Nice one Dom!
