Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoration

Once our collection of Polish street lights has been salvaged, they are brought home to our studio and the meticulous process of restoration begins. Each pendant is disassembled and every component examined. We then hand over to our experts – in-house and locally – to carefully restore each piece by hand. These particular street lights have been soda blasted (an environmentally friendly way to remove old paint), before being refinished, powder coated and rewired for modern day use, ready for the next chapter of their lives.
