Lighting design in the UK benefitted from a free market. Different companies were working at the same time, designing and producing similar products for the same market. Often with only slight differences in their style, they constantly upgraded and improved their original designs. The products we salvage come from the old industrial heartland of England. This area of the UK was once the boiler room of the British economy - from the potteries of Stoke, through the engineering works of Birmingham, to the wool, textile and cotton mills of Oldham and Manchester.

Restoration

Lights bearing the iconic REVO stamp once illuminated the streets, railways, and factory floors that served the hotbed of British industry in the 1920s-1960s. In a competitive marketplace, REVO reinvented its brand many times over the decades in keeping with the technological development of their lights and the design trends of each era. During restoration in our workshop, we often come across these differing logos alluding to their date of manufacture, allowing us to record and date each light accurately. Honouring the original design, we tailor each light’s restoration accordingly, preserving their heritage and ensuring their use for decades more to come

About the LED lamp

This product is fitted with the latest in energy-saving technology. The LED lamp, with an average life of 50,000 hours, sits within an etched diffusion sleeve which prevents glare and creates an even distribution of warm light (2700-3000K) when illuminated. It is supplied as standard with a non-dimmable switched lamp. Alternatively, a dimmable lamp with remote module (Leading/Trailing edge, Dali/DMX or 1-10v) can be supplied - please contact the studio for more information.

What's the difference in brightness between a LED bulb, a fluorescent bulb, and a traditional 60w filament bulb?

In simple terms, bulb brightness is measured in lumens. Lumens (denoted by lm) are a measure of the total amount of visible light (to the human eye) from a bulb or light source. As a comparison: this LED bulb is 2475lm; a fluorescent bulb of the same length is 2460lm; and a traditional 60w filament bulb is 800lm.

REVO was founded in the early 20th century and became a household name in the 1930s, when electric street lighting was widely introduced throughout the UK. Based in Tipton, Staffordshire, REVO engineers were famed for their creativity, often developing styles of lighting individual to the towns for which they were designed. This means that whilst there are a wealth of classic REVO styles, from prismatics and enamels to machinist lights and bulkheads, there are also some incredible individual rarities to be found.
