Vintage floor standing Francis searchlight

A one-off feature floor light with British heritage. Francis Searchlights Ltd, UK, has been making high-quality lighting products for the marine industry since 1901. The searchlight is mounted on a British made Scopas sculptors stand, by designer and manufacturer Alec Tiranti Ltd.

Lighting design in the UK benefitted from a free market. Different companies were working at the same time, designing and producing similar products for the same market. Often with only slight differences in their style, they constantly upgraded and improved their original designs. The products we salvage come from the old industrial heartland of England. This area of the UK was once the boiler room of the British economy - from the potteries of Stoke, through the engineering works of Birmingham, to the wool, textile and cotton mills of Oldham and Manchester.

Restoration

The light and stand have been disassembled and every component examined, carefully restored and re-assembled. The aluminium enclosure of the light and stand has been soda-blasted before being polished by hand. All the original features have been retained including the glass screen, locking handles and bracket. The light can be rotated 360 degrees on the collapsible stand, which has a lovely detailing on the cast top plate.

The light is supplied tested and rewired with a new screw (E27) lamp holder, 2 mtrs of elephant grey braided cable, a foot switch and plug.
