Vintage 1940s searchlight

A stunning feature floor light with a copper searchlight and hardwood tripod. The large lantern has been refurbished and polished, with a lacquered steel bezel, brass detailing and brackets allowing the light to be angled and rotated. The lantern is mounted to a British WW2 military observation oak tripod that features bronze detailing.

Lighting design in the UK benefitted from a free market. Different companies were working at the same time, designing and producing similar products for the same market. Often with only slight differences in their style, they constantly upgraded and improved their original designs. The products we salvage come from the old industrial heartland of England. This area of the UK was once the boiler room of the British economy - from the potteries of Stoke, through the engineering works of Birmingham, to the wool, textile and cotton mills of Oldham and Manchester.

Restoration

Over the years, we’ve restored thousands of lights that would otherwise have become scrap - examining, refurbishing and updating one part at a time. Every one goes through a variety of processes to bring it from the worn and dilapidated state it arrives in, to a stage where it is ready for your home. From stripping down and rewiring, to applying a finish and sealing the light preventing further degradation to the surface.

The light is supplied tested and rewired with a new screw (E27) lamp holder, 4 meters elephant grey braided cable, inline foot switch and a plug.
