Unlike the communist Eastern Bloc countries, lighting design in mid-century U.S.A. benefitted from a free market. Different companies were working at the same time designing and producing similar products for the same market, often with only slight differences in their style. Due to the location we rarely have the opportunity to reclaim and restore light fixtures from the U.S.A., but some of our perennial favourites are the old signal lights that adorned the highways of the midwest. We reconfigure and restore these timeless classics into functional pendant lights, for both residential and commercial use.

Restoration

Wherever possible we retain the original finish of a light in testament to its history and heritage. However, sometimes leaving a surface as we find it just isn’t possible. Here, the aluminium enclosure has been refurbished by hand and polished on large rotating cotton wheels adding shine, grain and emphasising the casting details - bringing out the light’s character through surface and patina.

The aluminium enclosure has been fully restored and polished, and is fitted with a new etched glass screen to provide a diffused light when illuminated.
