Industrial Czech bakelite LED pendants

Vintage fluorescent pendant lights salvaged from an industrial site in Czechoslovakia, now fitted with new LED lamps. The two bakelite-end enclosures feature manufacturer's detailing, while the original paint finish has been sensitively retained and sealed on the steel shade.

As featured in the Warner Bros TV series 'Pennyworth'.

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Lit by skinflint

Fans of Warner Bros’ series Pennyworth will have spotted these lights in the Raven Group’s war room. The industrial style perfectly complements the details of the ‘60s set, whilst the Bakelite features and maker’s marks emulate the insignias dotted around the room. Read more on our projects page.

About the LED lamps

This product is fitted with the latest in energy-saving technology. The two LED lamps - with an average life of 50,000 hours - are non-dimmable, and sit within an etched diffusion sleeve to prevent glare and create an even distribution of warm light (3000K) when illuminated.

What’s the difference in brightness between a LED bulb, a fluorescent bulb, and a traditional 60w filament bulb?

In simple terms, bulb brightness is measured in lumens. Lumens (denoted by lm) are a measure of the total amount of visible light (to the human eye) from a bulb or light source. As a comparison: one of these LED bulbs is 1025lm; a fluorescent bulb of the same length is 1820lm, and a traditional 60w filament bulb is 800lm.
