Eastern Bloc machinists lights. Circa 1950 (Type 1)

Vintage wall mounted machinists lights salvaged from a factory in the former Czechoslovakia. Brushed and lacquered steel arms, aluminium base and shade with Bakelite cover. Full rotational adjustment at both shade and base with further lockable adjustment at arm juncture.

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoration

At skinflint all original electrical elements are removed and replaced with brand new, certified components (EN60598 if your electrician asks). Any pre-wired lights are then rewired, tested and certified in line with electrical safety standards BS EN 60598. That way you have a light you can rely on every day, for decades to come.
