A large run of pendant lighting by REVO, one of the British lighting powerhouses. Originally made in the 1940s the lights show small signs of wear, and feature vents at the top allowing for uplighting when illuminated. Expertly restored and updated with a new LED lamp.

Lighting design in the UK benefitted from a free market. Different companies were working at the same time, designing and producing similar products for the same market. Often with only slight differences in their style, they constantly upgraded and improved their original designs. The products we salvage come from the old industrial heartland of England. This area of the UK was once the boiler room of the British economy - from the potteries of Stoke, through the engineering works of Birmingham, to the wool, textile and cotton mills of Oldham and Manchester.

Restoration

At skinflint, restoring a light doesn’t necessarily mean making it like ‘new’. So we often preserve the visible signs of age, such as spots of wear and patina, to give a hint of the light’s first story. Once salvaged and brought back to our workshop, each light is disassembled and we examine every component for damage and flaws, so we know which can be kept, and which need to be replaced. We then hand over to our experts – in-house and locally – to carefully restore each component by hand.

About the LED lamp

This product is fitted with the latest in energy-saving technology. The LED lamp, with an average life of 50,000 hours, sits within an etched diffusion sleeve to prevent glare and creates an even distribution of warm light (2700-3000K) when illuminated. It is supplied as standard with a non-dimmable switched lamp. Alternatively, a dimmable lamp with a remote module (Leading/Trailing edge, Dali/DMX or 1-10v) can be supplied - please contact the studio for more information.

What’s the difference in brightness between a LED bulb, a fluorescent bulb, and a traditional 60w filament bulb?

In simple terms, bulb brightness is measured in lumens. Lumens (denoted by lm) are a measure of the total amount of visible light (to the human eye) from a bulb or light source. As a comparison: this LED bulb is 2475lm; a fluorescent bulb of the same length is 2460lm; and a traditional 60w filament bulb is 800lm.

Based in Tipton, Staffordshire, REVO engineers were famed for their creativity, often developing styles of lighting individual to the towns for which they were designed.
