A striking pair of extra-large 1950s surgical floor lights salvaged from a French hospital. Each light has undergone a time-consuming refurbishment and reconstruction but has retained all the original features including the complex internal focusing mechanism.

Vintage French lighting is often defined by the industrial lights of Jielde and Mapelec, but lighting companies throughout France have historically designed and manufactured lights for all applications. This variety is reflected in the styles of lights we salvage and restore - from the decorative Art Nouveau and Art Deco to the classic harder edged, clean-lined industrial aesthetic.

Restoration

The main light housing is of aluminum construction, this has been soda blasted to remove the degraded medical paint, then re-polished by hand. Internally the focusing mechanism, comprising of original lenses, reflectors and springs, has been restored and allows the focus of light to be adjusted. The arm and stand has an internal counter weight, and the main light housing can be rotated and angled through the bracket.

Supplied tested and rewired with 4no. new E27 (screw) lamp holders, 3 metres of Elephant Grey braided cable, footswitch and plug.
