1950s Czech machinist wall light

Once providing illumination for detailed machine work, this 1950s one-off wall light was salvaged from a factory in the industrial heart of former Czechoslovakia. Versatile by design, this shade maintains its original finish, with patina indicative of its rich heritage. Featuring ball and socket joints at the shade and wall plate, this piece is perfect for task lighting in studio spaces.

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoration

At skinflint we are fascinated by different materials and the interesting patinas that develop on their surface over time with age. That’s why we tend not to repaint our lights, instead retaining and celebrating their authenticity and individual character. Giving you a vintage light that is truly unique.
