1950s Admel architect’s floor light

A rare architect's floor light by Admel, manufactured in Britain in the 1950s. Originally used for illuminating architect's drawing boards, this 'Fingalight' model comes complete with maker's marks and features a polished aluminium shade with a chrome plated arm and counter balance. Castors make this easily manoeuvrable for considered articulation of light. Great for home offices or lounges.

Lighting design in the UK benefitted from a free market. Different companies were working at the same time, designing and producing similar products for the same market. Often with only slight differences in their style, they constantly upgraded and improved their original designs. The products we salvage come from the old industrial heartland of England. This area of the UK was once the boiler room of the British economy - from the potteries of Stoke, through the engineering works of Birmingham, to the wool, textile and cotton mills of Oldham and Manchester.

Restoration

Before a light can be restored, any damaged outdated components will require repair or replacing. As part of this work we replace original imperial screws with their modern-day metric counterparts and rework their screw ports to take them. We replace the original electrics with brand new, fully certified EN60598 components - this gives you peace of mind, knowing your vintage light is as safe to use as any modern light.

Supplied tested and rewired with a new bayonet (B22) switched lamp holder, 4 meters of elephant grey braided cable and a plug.
