Unlike the communist Eastern Bloc countries, lighting design in mid-century U.S.A. benefitted from a free market. Different companies were working at the same time designing and producing similar products for the same market, often with only slight differences in their style. Due to the location we rarely have the opportunity to reclaim and restore light fixtures from the U.S.A., but some of our perennial favourites are the old signal lights that adorned the highways of the midwest. We reconfigure and restore these timeless classics into functional pendant lights, for both residential and commercial use.

Restoration

Where possible we retain the original finish of a light - it is part of its history and emphasises its heritage. However, sometimes leaving a surface as we find it just isn’t possible. The aluminium enclosure has been refurbished by hand and polished on large rotating cotton wheels adding shine, grain and highlighting the casting details. Bringing out the light’s character through surface and patina. Fitted with three new etched glass screens which provide a nice even diffusion of light when illuminated.

Supplied tested and rewired with 3no. bayonet (B22) lamp holders and 2metres of elephant grey braided power cable, and ceiling mounting kit. This is two minimal stainless steel suspension wires with ceiling mounts that allow millimetric adjustment.
