Art Deco Czech ceiling light

Era: 1920s Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

Salvaged from the Czech Republic this stylish Art Deco ceiling light has a pewter-plated low profile central baluster, stem and three curved arms. The four (identical in size) hand blown white opaline glass globes, when illuminated, provide a nice even distribution of light.

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoration

Forming part of our Spring Summer collection, this chandelier is a 1920s original from the Art Deco era. Art Deco took its design inspiration largely from the Machine Age. In the difficult years after WW1 artists and designers found inspiration and positivity in the new and exciting era of the jet engine, which promised a more positive future and is to be found reflected in the elegant lines and modern materials of the lights in this collection.

Supplied tested and rewired with 4no. new screw (E27) lamp holders, ceiling mounting plate and original rose.
