Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoration

Each and every light that we find goes through a variety of processes to bring it from the worn and often dilapidated state it arrives in, to a stage where it is ready for modern-day use. The first and most crucial stage is fully dismantling each piece - we do this even if we have many of the same identical lights - allowing us to undertake an in-depth review of its construction, state of repair, and map its journey through to restoration.

Once illuminating a hotel reception in Ostrava, former Czechoslovakia, these salvaged 1950s vintage wall lights are a retro product born from the communist era. Featuring two original glass cylinders, one of which tapers down, creating a soft and even glow when illuminated, complete with the original Bakelite body. Perfect for adding ambience to lounges, lobbies, dining areas and bedrooms.
