1920s Czech chandelier light

Era: 1920s Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

Salvaged from Czechoslovakia, this Art Deco chandelier was once the central feature pendant within a room. With a sleek style, a chrome-plated baluster and fan detailing typical of the era, the three hand-blown tinted yellow opaline glass globes cast a diffused glow when lit.

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoration

The distinctive features of the Art Deco style reflect admiration for modernity and the man-made machine - simple, sleek and streamlined, graphic ornamentation, geometric angles and soft curves are often present, as are the use of elegant man-made substances such as glass and chrome.
