1930s antique Franta Anýž metal pendant

Era: 1930s Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

Manufactured by famed Czech metalworker Franta Anýž, this one-off 1930s pendant was born at a time of innovation and modernity in former Czechoslovakia. Art Deco by design, a dramatic metal shade features a hand-brushed nickel plating. Opaline glass provides soft downlighting with an added element of uplighting when illuminated. Sensitively restored to preserve all original components, this is a true collector's piece. Perfect for stirring up conversation over dining room tables and lobbies. Equire about this product

Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoration

As part of our research investigating each light’s history, our team delved into the National Archive at Prague’s National Technical Museum to unearth this original manufacturer’s catalogue showing this particular pendant light. Using this material to guide our restoration processes, the light’s unique storied patina, hand-painted finish and opaline glass have been carefully preserved.
