1920s Art Deco Czech wall lights

Born at the height of the Roaring Twenties, these original 1920s Art Deco wall lights have survived a century of tumultuous Czechoslovakian history. Salvaged from the reading room of a private residence in Prague, featuring the original white opaline glass tube, manufacturer’s markings and a storied patina on its chrome-plated enclosure. Mounted horizontally or vertically, they are ideal for creating ambience in lounges, restaurants or bars.

Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoration

At skinflint we are fascinated by the interesting surfaces and patinas in the vintage lights that we find. That’s why we tend not to repaint surfaces, instead committing to preserving, protecting and celebrating the heritage - and uniquely worn aesthetic - of each piece. Once a salvaged light arrives in our workshop it is examined to determine its materiality and best restoration process. Non-ferrous metals such as aluminium are often sealed using waxes, or occasionally left raw so the surface can develop an interesting lustre over time.
